G.F. Handel: Acis & Galatea HWV 49 (1718 Version) with pre-concert talk featuring Nicolas Reveles

  • Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church 3459 Manchester Avenue Cardiff, CA, 92007 United States (map)

Handel's Acis & Galatea was his first dramatic work in English when it premiered as a one-act masque at the Cannons estate, home of the composer's patron James Brydges, the Duke of Chandos. Acis & Galatea portrays the love affair between the nymph Galatea and the shepherd Acis, whose reunion is thwarted by the monster Polyphemus. A magnificent work from beginning to end filled with Handel's masterful dramatic storytelling led by an all-star cast of soloists.

Acis: Derek Chester

Galatea: Teresa Wakim

Polyphemus: Mischa Bouvier

Damon: John Russell

Coridon: Matthew Tresler

There will be a pre-concert talk featuring Nicolas Reveles and Ruben Valenzuela. The talk begins at 6:45pm and Nicolas and Ruben will discuss the creation and impact of Acis and Galatea. The concert begins at 7:30pm.
